Auckland Meetups
Meeting in person to think, discuss, and practise the philosophy that matters most
The New Zealand Stoic Society hosts regular in-person gatherings in Auckland through our Meetup group, Auckland Stoics. These gatherings bring together people from all walks of life who share a serious interest in Stoic philosophy — not merely as an academic subject, but as a guide for living.
Each session is built around a theme drawn from the ancient Stoics: Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, Seneca, Musonius Rufus, and others. We read, reflect, and discuss together — exploring ideas that have helped people navigate difficulty, cultivate virtue, and live with greater clarity for over two thousand years.
All are welcome, whether you are entirely new to Stoicism or have been studying it for years. The only requirement is a willingness to engage honestly and to think.
What to Expect
A Theme, Not a Lecture
Each gathering is organised around a philosophical topic or text — Stoic ethics, the nature of virtue, the dichotomy of control, or a particular thinker. The discussion is guided, not prescribed.
Open Dialogue
We are all learners here. Sessions are conversational and inclusive — you may arrive knowing nothing of Stoicism, or having read deeply, and you will find your place in either case.
Good Company
Philosophy is best practised in community. Our gatherings are warm and unhurried — time set aside from the pace of ordinary life to think carefully about how we live.

Where We Meet
Our Auckland gatherings are held at The Good Home, Mt Eden — a relaxed and welcoming venue well suited to the kind of honest, unhurried conversation that good philosophy requires.
Sessions typically run on Saturday mornings and last around two hours. Details for each upcoming meeting — including the topic, readings, and any discussion questions — are posted on our Meetup page in advance.

Membership of the New Zealand Stoic Society is not required to attend — though we warmly invite those who find a home in our community to become members and support the Society’s work.
