Upcoming Events

The New Zealand Stoic Society hosts a variety of events designed to bring Stoic philosophy to life and to foster a community of learning, reflection, and practice. Our gatherings are open to anyone with an interest in Stoicism — from beginners to seasoned practitioners.

We add international events hosted by organisations dedicated to Stoicism to connect the New Zealand Stoic community to the global Stoic community.

Check this page regularly for announcements of upcoming events. Details will include dates, times, locations, and registration information. Events are typically free or low-cost, though donations to support the Society are always welcome.

Regular Events

The New Zealand Stoic Society hosts a range of regular gatherings designed to help members explore and apply Stoic philosophy in everyday life.

Monthly Meetups

Each month, we hold community meetups where we discuss key themes and practical applications of Stoicism. These sessions offer a supportive space to reflect on Stoic principles, share personal insights, and learn from one another’s experiences. Discussions are usually facilitated by members of the New Zealand Stoic Society and are open to anyone interested in living more thoughtfully and virtuously.

Stoic Study Circles

Small-group discussions focused on the works of Stoic thinkers such as Epictetus, Seneca, Marcus Aurelius, and Musonius Rufus. These circles are a chance to explore the original texts, reflect on their meaning, and consider how they apply to modern life.

Stoic Practice Sessions

Workshops that focus on practical exercises from Stoic philosophy: premeditatio malorum (anticipating challenges), journaling, negative visualisation, and reflection on virtue. Participants leave with tools they can use in daily life.

Annual Events

Stoicon Local – Aotearoa New Zealand

Part of the global Stoic Week movement, our annual gathering connects Stoics across New Zealand for a day of talks, workshops, and community discussion.

Stoic Week

Each year we join the international community in practicing Stoicism for seven days with guided readings, exercises, and daily reflections. Local meetups and online sessions are organised to support participants.

Public Lectures & Talks

Guest speakers — scholars, practitioners, and community leaders — share insights on Stoic philosophy, its history, and its relevance today. These talks are designed to be accessible and inspiring, with space for Q&A and conversation.
